You Think the USA Has Gone Crazy?

The hype surrounding the Coronavirus continues to be an ongoing thorn in our collective sides. What started as something we all thought would come and go quickly with minimal disruption, has transgressed into a universal throbbing headache. And while we attempt to get back to some modicum of normalcy, (some places in the U.S. are trying harder than others to get back to normal), other parts of the world have entirely lost…their…minds.

In Manila, lead officials are out and about enforcing strict quarantine measures. The Philippines have some of the most stringent shutdown policies. They require that residents have passes to leave their homes. The funny thing is, they’re doing it dressed in full Star Wars garb. You read that right. Darth Vader is going door-to-door, ensuring that residents are complying with harsh government measures. The irony is remarkable.

Along the same lines, volunteers on Indonesia’s Island of Java have enlisted an army of superhero imitators to spray disinfectant into the air in an effort to quell the spread. On any given day, residents can witness Spiderman, Batman,
Captain America, and others dousing entire neighborhoods with aerosol disinfectant.

A Finnish bakery in Helsinki managed to save itself from closure by creating cakes that resemble rolls of toilet
paper. They can’t keep the shelves stocked. Sound familiar?

In Japan, dancing robots have replaced fans at some baseball parks. With allof their stadiums devoid of crowds, the Fukuoka Hawks have enlisted robots to wave, dance, and cheer from the stands. My only question is if they drink $10.00 beers.

A group of Russian restaurant owners stripped of their income have taken to social media to protest Russia’s lockdown. What makes them different from other protesters? Well…they’re protesting nude. Literally hundreds of bar, restaurant, and café owners have posted pictures of themselves naked with carefully positioned plates, cups and napkin holders. We can only hope that they wash (or discard) any of these utensils prior to serving food in them again when the lockdown ends.

Recently, a town in France decided to battle the virus and the depression of the lockdown by dressing up as Smurfs. The entire town. All of them. 3,549 people dressed as Smurfs. It was,quite literally, the largest gathering of Smurfs in one place. They now hold the Guinness world record.

There are gang riots in Thailand. Not just any riots. The 2020 Thai riots are courtesy of about 1,000 apes. Monkeys are quite common in the streets of Thailand. Generally, they’re pretty docile. But with the human population in quarantine, they’ve staked their claim on the empty streets. And they’re fighting among themselves. They’ve actually formed gangs. In the town of Lopburi, one group has claimed a portion of the inner city proper, while another works their racket around the local temple. Yes, 2020 has spawned Thai, killer monkey gangs. Where’s Charlton Heston when you need him?

So when you’re thinking about how crazy things stateside have become, be grateful that we’re not dodging monkey gangs or being oppressed by the Galactic Empire.
